Asad Shah, a Muslim shopkeeper killed for wishing Christians “Happy Easter” laid to rest.

In line with details, a Muslim shopkeeper, Asad Shah who hailed from Ahmadiya sect of Islam was stabbed to death by an extremist for wishing Christians “Happy Easter,” has been laid to rest. On Saturday, April 2, hundreds attended his funeral while among those who attended Asad Shah’s funeral were members of the UK Parliament Alison Thewliss, Carol Monaghan, and Sandra White.

At this occasion, hundreds of mourners including family, community members and others paid homage to Asad Shah at a mosque in Glasgow, Scotland. Asad Shah had posted a message on Facebook wishing Christians a happy Easter, which caused outrage against him. He was stabbed outside his store Glasgow’s Shawlands area on March 24.

While paying him respect at the Bait-Ur-Rahman Mosque at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Centre, Asad Shah’s family said, “He was a brilliant man, recognizing that the differences between people are vastly outweighed by our similarities. And he didn’t just talk about this; he lived it each and every day, in his beloved community of Shawlands and his country of Scotland.”

A community member said, “We are sad that a very popular man of our community is not with us any more. I don’t know how we will survive without him. He was a polite, gentle person. Today’s service is in his memory and we are proud to have had such a wonderful person amongst our community.”

The murderer, identified as Tanveer Ahmad has been in Police custody and has been charged of Asad Shah’s murder. The 32-year-old extremist is a Sunni Muslim from Bradford. The Police later declared that it was a “religiously prejudiced” killing.

Whereas, Muhammad Faisal, who says that he witnessed the incident, revealed that a bearded man, wearing a religious robe entered Asad Shah’s shop and spoke to him in his native language before he eventually stabbed him in the head with a knife.

He said that, Asad Shah’s brother, rushed to the scene as he heard the commotion and when he reached he saw the assassin laughing while sitting on top of Asad Shah’s chest. “The brother dragged Mr. Shah away but the guy continued attacking with the blade. They struggled up to the bus stop where Asad collapsed.”

The message posted by Asad Shah on his Facebook which caused annoyance to the murderer read: “Good Friday and very happy Easter, especially to my beloved Christian nation x! … Lets Follow the Real Footstep of Beloved Holy JESUS CHIRST (PBUH) And Get the Real Success in Both Worlds.”
