Two Christian Women Abducted and Forcibly Married to Muslim Men in Sargodha

Two Christian women, Tahira 21 and Reema 20 were abducted by two Muslim men, Muhammad Mustafa and Muhammad Kashif from Chak 38 Janubi.

Though the incident took place on December 2, 2015, the news reached a local legal aid organisation, CLAAS on February 17, 2016.

Muhammad Mustafa is an already married men and father of two children.

Both these men forcibly converted the women to Islam and then married them and confined them in Islamabad.

Tahira was physically tortured by Muhammad Kashif, but succeeded in escaping. She however, was scared to return to her family.

Kashif filed writ petition against Tahira’s family in a High Court at Sargodha on February 2, 2016. In the result of this writ petition, an FIR has been registered against these six nominees on February 11, 2016.

The following Christian men are nominated in the FIR; Amjad Pervaiz (cousin), Amir Shakeel (brother), Arif Masih (uncle), Nazir Masih (uncle), Anwar Masih (uncle) and Irfan Masih (cousin).

Police has arrested Arif Masih and Naseer Masih and are raiding houses to search for others.

Most of the men of Tahira’s family have fled from their homes and are in hiding. The women disclosed to CLAAS team that previously, a Muslim woman had eloped with a Christian man and hence, to settle the score, these Christian women were abducted by Muslim men and forcibly converted and married to those men.

Aga Hussain, Sub Inspector at Sajid Shaheed Police Station Sargodha shared that SHO Shafi Ullah Khan is under direction of the Justice Tariq Abbasi, High Court to produce Tahira dead or alive under any circumstances whatsoever in the Court on February 20, 2016.

There has been an increase in cases of forcible conversion and marriage since the previous year. In 2015, a young Christian girl, Sana Shahid was likewise abducted from Sialkot and married to a Muslim man. Her parents still await her return.
