TAXILA: A blasphemy accused that was freed just a few days ago has been shot dead.
According to details, 52-year-old Abid Mehmood Alias has been shot dead. He was freed few days ago from police custody. He was booked on the charges of blasphemy as he who was accused of blasphemy as he reportedly had claimed ‘prophethood’ in October 2011 and a blasphemy case was registered against him under Section 295-C on a complaint lodged by his son-in-law Sadaqat Ali. Abid was transferred to Aabid was sent to jail after his mental condition had been examined by a board of doctors at the Rawalpindi District Headquarters Hospital. However, recently, he was released from Adyala jail on the basis of his deteriorating mental and physical condition. He was resident of Kamra village and owned a hotel.
However, on Tuesday masked men took him from his house in Ahatta area and afterwards his dead body was found on Wednesday January 7, from an area near Usman Khattar Railway Station. He had been shot in the chest and head from a close range. Police said it appeared to be a case of target killing. His dead body was shifted to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Taxila for autopsy by the police.
Subsequently, when the dead body was brought to the village, an enraged mob hindered the burial and did not allow the body to be buried in the local graveyard. As a result his family buried the dead body in the courtyard of his house.
