GOJRA: A Christian husband and wife allegedly accused of blasphemy subsequently booked by the police under 295-B,C.
According to the sources Shafaqat Masih a 35 year old Christian and his wife Shagufta Bibi were booked by the police over supposed blasphemy case. Nonetheless, the First Investigation Report (FIR) of this case bearing No. 407/13 was filed under 295-B, C of the Pakistan Penal Code against unknown.
The complainant Rana Mohammad Fiaz maintained that blasphemous SMS was sent to him from a mobile number. Followed by extensive probation Police recovered the SIM card. The Christian couple was eventually arrested by the police.
What’s more, a local Ms. Shagufta informed an organization World Vision in Progress WVIP about this incident urging them to help the detained Christian couple. “As soon as I heard the incident, I requested World Vision in Progress – WVIP to reach there at once to take care of the kids. On my humble request, WVIP management has sent its official to look into the matter,” says Ms. Shagufta.
In addition to the WVIP a Pakistani Christian Human Rights activist Basharat Khokhar, has condemned the incident while urging the concerned administration to take the anticipatory measures to make certain unbiased investigations of this case. Whereas, a local official says, “The local administration has taken this sensitive issue seriously.”
Keeping in view that Gojra is also known for a tragic episode of anti-Christian violence in which eight people from same family were burnt alive and around forty houses of Christians and a local Church was set ablaze by a raging mob infuriated by reports of alleged blasphemy, in August, 2009.
