LANDIKOTAL: A Christian from FATA bestowed with scholarship by USA opening new horizons for the persevering student.
In line with details, Sajid Masih belonging to Khyber Agency has turned out to be the first ever Christian from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) to be awarded a scholarship to study in the United States.
The Northern Virginia Community College in the United States granted scholarship to young Sajid Masih. While previously, he had applied to the Northern Virginia Community College Initiative Programme (CCIP) under the US exchange programme. Whereas, in excess of 882 applicants from all over Pakistan had applied for the scholarship under this programme.
Prior to leaving for the United States of America, while talking a national news agency he expressed his jubilation saying,” he was proud to be the first Christian and someone from the minority community living in Fata to have won this scholarship. “
Sajid comes from an area where law and order situation has been tainted by insurgents, actively targeting the educational institutions. According to a rough estimate, the militants have blown up as many as 500 schools in the tribal regions, up to now.
The daily bombings are a harsh reminder of the challenges that the education sector in the tribal areas are confronted with. All at once, it lays the militants’ disagreement to basic literacy bare; imperilling the future of a entire generation of young tribal children.
With an aim to recover the inflexible image of the people of FATA, Sajid says, “This is a great opportunity for me to promote a soft image of the tribal people of Pakistan during my stay in the US.”
