Indonesian minorities have faced many attacks in the past decade. The Christian minority has been a particular target. They are discriminated, persecuted and tortured by Muslim hardliners.

Rising intolerance is a product of a range of ideologies being practiced in Indonesia. The State law also facilitates the rapidly rising intolerance and the Christians gain absolutely no support what so ever.

Hopes are now high among Indonesia’s religious minorities that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will restore Indonesia’s reputation as a tolerant and pluralistic Muslim majority nation.

Jokowi has a pluralist image and is known for defending Christians even when they are individually attacked. After being harassed for decades now the Indonesian Christian community is living in hope that they will also get some relief.
