According to media reports, the main body of the crashed AirAsia plane has been located and photographed in the Java Sea. Officials have confirmed these reports. Singapore’s Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen has posted pictures taken by a Singaporean search robot on his Facebook page. He said the words painted on the side of the wreckage confirmed the plane was flight QZ8501.
AirAsia flight QZ8501 crashed on 28 December, 2014 as it was flying from Surabaya in Indonesia to Singapore with 162 people on board. An advance team of 15 divers plunged into the waters of Java Sea earlier today to observe the main portion of the jet. A agency official coordinating the search said, “They will first assess how many bodies are still trapped inside the fuselage. Hopefully we can retrieve all the victims as soon as possible.” So far only 50 bodies have been recovered.
