Pakistani Christian Political and Social welfare organization strongly condemns attack on Sister Bargeeta Almeby.
Sister Bargeeta, a 70 yr-old, protestant missionary from Sweden, was intercepted by two gunmen at Model Town, Lahore, while she was driving her car. The gunmen were on motorbike, and shot repeatedly, at her chest on 3rd of December. Sister Bargeeta is under treatment in Jinnah Hospital, however her condition remains critical.
Sister Bargeeta Almeby, was the Managing Director of Full Gospel Assemblies Bible College, Kot Lakhpat, Lahore. She has served for 40 years in Pakistan as a missionary and social worker. Sister Bargeeta, was administering three NGO’s in Pakistan for a period of past three decades. A spokes man of the Full Gospel Assemblies Church, revealed that “a couple of unidentified men had visited Almeby’s residence a few days ago and inquired about her from her security guard”.
The assaulters did not carry off any valuables or cash from her car, after shooting her. An FIR has been lodged against unknown attackers.
Chief Advocate of Legal Evangelical Association Development (LEAD), Mr. Sardar Mughtaq Gill, has depreciated attack on the missionary, and appealed for strong action against the culprits. He added,”We are shocked by this incidence. Behind them are extremist forces who want to create fear in all foreigners who are working in Pakistan and extremists who want to expel all NGOs working for social justice and education. Let us pray and entrust Bargeeta’s life to Jesus Our Lord.”
Mr. Nazir S. Bhatti, President of Pakistan Christian Congress, (PCC), pinning the incidence on, has expressed his condemnation and demanded arrest of the gunmen.
“She is still lying unconscious in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Jinnah Hospital. We are investigating the attempt murder assault keeping in view all aspects of the happening,” Investigations SP Ijaz Shafi Dogar .
