Charsadda: 4 gunmen entered Bacha Khan University early morning on 20th January 2016 and started shooting at the University boy’s hostel.
20th January marks the death anniversary of ANP leader Bacha Khan. In commemoration of the event, a mushaira was to be held at Bacha Khan University, Charsadda on 20th January 2016. Prominent leaders from all over the province were invited at the event. Before the mushaira began around 4 gunmen entered the University and started shooting at regular intervals. Around 3000 students were seized in the University at the time of the attack.
According to resources, security forces and locals joined hands to face off the terrorists. After about an hour Pakistan army troops entered the University premises and evacuated the buildings. The terrorists were seized to two blocks and were then targeted by Pak army snipers.
The incident took 20 civilian lives including one Chemistry professor, Dr Hamid Hussain and several students. According to eye witnesses, Dr Hamid Hussain exhibited great bravery and targeted the terrorists with his pistol while his students took refuge. He was later shot by the attackers.

Chief of Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif visited Bacha Khan University and was briefed by DG ISI Lt. General Zaheerul Islam. Later, he visited Charsadda hospital to pay visit to the injured.
Later in the evening, DG ISPR addressed the nation assuring that a breakthrough had been achieved in identifying the attackers.
