ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court looks at the Badami Bagh incident as a land dispute.
On Monday, 11th of March, 2013 after turning the report of the Punjab police down, the three judge bench expressed disapproval over the performance of the concerned authorities. The bench was presided over by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, who issued directions to the IG Punjab to file comments by March 13. Besides, the bench interrogated the provincial government regarding the report compiled by Justice Hameed ur Rehman on Gojra incident. The court put to question government’s effort to publicize the report and effectual implementations on the recommendations of the report.
Additionally, the court inspected the fact of evacuation of the colony prior to the violence, raising questions on the absence of security measures from the provincial government despite of former information. “Everyone had done politics on the miseries of these poor people – you are unaware of the harm such incidents inflict on the image of the country,” the Chief Justice remarked while addressing the Inspector General of Punjab Police.
The bench commentated that at the prima facie it gives the impression of a land dispute, for that reason houses were evacuated.
