BHUTAN: A Court Orders Imprisonment To Two Pastors

Two pastors in Bhutan have been ruled for imprisonment by the Bhutanese court; one for accepting unauthorised funds from Christian organisations abroad, and the other for organising a worship meeting without official permission.

According to details, Pastor Tandin Wangyal was sentenced to three years and eleven months in prison, charged under the Civil Society Organisations Act of Bhutan, receiving funding of more than US$11,000 (£6,795; €8,736; AU$12,530; NZ$13,980) for ministry purposes from a foreign Christian organisation.

Another pastor, M.B. Thapa, was sentenced to two years and four months’ imprisonment for escorting Pastor Wangyal to a public meeting for which he had not obtained the required permission.
