Blasphemy accused Christian mother and her 9-year-old son claim they were tortured, following blasphemy accusations were hurled at them. Their release was procured by efficacious and successful efforts of local Christian and Muslim leaders. Christian mother and son were jailed and very likely to face death penalty or imprisonment.

Blasphemy accusations against Pakistani Christians

In line with the reports from UK based Christian charity and advocacy group British Pakistani Christian Association, 9-year-old respondent Izhan was accused of burning a copy of the Holy Quran at school. The incident took place on October 20, and was arrested next day along with his mother. BPCA claims that police had arrested the two without carrying out investigations into the allegations.

While the Christian boy and his mother remained behind the bars, local Christian leader including JUIF’s Member of National Assembly Asiya Nasir in collaboration with the Member of Provincial Assembly Balochistan William Barkat and Shahzad Kundan started jostling for their release.

The matter was resolved on the next day October 21, Friday when the local body of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) played a pivotal role in retrieving the Christian mother and son. The blasphemy accusations were quashed while an FIR no. 167 was filed against unknown persons.
