At least 15 people were killed and 28 injured when a loud blast occurred in a bus carrying over 40 passengers to Peshawar, early morning on Wednesday.
The blast occurred when the bus reached Sunehri Masjid road, eye witnesses said.
Rescue teams reached the spot. Police has cordoned off the area.
The injured were rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital and Cant Hospital.
Television pictures showed the vehicle partially destroyed and some of the wounded being taken to a hospital.
The bomb went off as the bus passed a main road busy with morning traffic.
“The blast was really loud … the windows of the buildings nearby were shattered,” witness Usama Hussein said
“The roof of the bus was completely blown off by the bomb, I saw many dead bodies and severely injured people being rushed to the hospital.”
SSP Operation, Abbas Marwat said that blast occurred through a time device. “An eight-kilogram bomb was planted underneath a seat, near the toolbox,” he said.
He added that further investigation will take place when the driver who is in a critical condition recovers.
Praising his gallantry he said,”Not caring about his injuries he drove the bus to a police station where rescue services reached easily.”
The Peshawar bound bus picked passengers from different stops. Most passengers commuted to work at the NADRA and passport offices in Peshawar.
In a statement published on the website of Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said “such cowardly acts could not deter our resolve to weed out terrorism from the country”.
