The CICF Condemns Brutal Killing of A Young Man By Hospital Staff

Date: 28th March 2018

Lahore: The Cecil & Iris Chaudhry Foundation (CICF) has very strongly condemned the brutal act of violence carried out by the doctors and staff of the Services Hospital Lahore; which resulted in the death of a young man Suneel Masih an attendant of a patient admitted in the hospital.

According to the FIR, registered by Suneel’s brother, the fatal scuffle erupted when a lady doctor allegedly “slapped” their sister who was admitted in the maternity ward of the hospital. An intense fight between the victim’s family and the hospital security guards and staff erupted. Suneel was beaten up so brutally that he succumbed to the violence inflicted upon him.

Ms Michelle Chaudhry President of The Cecil & Iris Chaudhry Foundation (CICF) expressing deep concern over the situation stated “We condemn this horrific incident in the strongest possible manner. A society becomes exceedingly dangerous when it disregards all norms of humanity. An innocent person has lost his life at the hands of those who are responsible for the protection and healing of the sick. A hospital is a place where one should feel safe and not where lives are threatened.”

Demanding justice Ms Chaudhry emphasized “The Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the tragic incident; we however demand of him to ensure that an impartial inquiry is carried out at the earliest and those responsible for this heinous crime are brought to justice without any delay. Accountability is pivotal in order to curb such incidents from occurring in the future.”

According to the FIR several doctors, security guards, ward boys and the hospital administration have been accused of the murder. However no arrests have been made yet. The CICF has condoled and expressed solidarity with the family; Suneel Masih was an employee of the Motorway Police and leaves behind a young widow and four minor children.

The Cecil & Iris Chaudhry Foundation (CICF) is an independent, non-government, non-profit organization, dedicated to the eradication of injustice in society by advocating on behalf of the under-privileged, under represented and marginalized groups within Pakistan.”
