Member Punjab Assembly Mary James Gill intervenes in the Sahiwal church row. The lawmaker called on the injured Christians and inquired after their health. The injured are receiving medical care at the Nur Shah Hospital in Sahiwal.
After visiting the hospital, Mary James met with the concerned officials and discussed the developments in the case. MPA Mary James arrived at the Pakistan Gospel Assembly church in Village 77/4R in Sahiwal district. She also met with the local pastor who briefed her about the incident.
Details emerged that on March 4, Sunday a mob of more than 20 people attacked the Gospel Assembly church during a prayer service. The attackers beat up the congregants, who sustained serious injuries and were later shifted to hospital. Local Christians claim the alleged assaulter Rao Tufail and his accomplices are eyeing for church’s property.Local pastor says that Rao and his accomplices want to disposes the church of its property.
The pastor explained that the assailants were more than two dozen and were equipped with sticks. When the service was going on, the attackers stormed in and started beating the congregants including women and children. “Women and children are among those who have been injured in the attack.”
The attack left local Christians anxious and fearful as they resorted to confining themselves to their homes in anticipation of communal violence. About 200 Christian families are nestled in the village. Some media reports claim about 5-7 congregants were injured. Women injured during the attack revealed that the mobsters tore their clothes and unleashed physical torture on them.
