Christianity growing even in the thick of belligerency says Open Doors

Open Doors claims that Christianity is growing in Saudi Arabia despite intense persecution and hostility. The charity states that there has been a rise in natives accepting Christianity, however, majority of Christian population is that of migrants.

Christianity grows in Saudi Arabia

In keeping with United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), Saudi Arabia “remains uniquely repressive in the extent to which it restricts the public expression of any religion other than Islam.” “The population is nearly 28 million, including approximately eight to ten million expatriate workers of various faiths, including nearly two million non-Muslims,” USCIRF report said. It has been estimated that there are about 1.4 million Christians living in Saudi Arabia. A survey revealed that 4.4 per cent of Saudi Arabia’s population identifies itself as Christian.

Open Doors disclosed that it is supporting a Christian convert who has secretly put his belief in Christ, after taking an online course. It was revealed that this believer contacted Christians in a Middle East country, and spent few days with them, where he had the chance to go to church for the first time in his life. Open Doors further revealed that the believer was baptized subsequently.
