An assemblage of Christians brought out a protesting demonstration against the Interior Minister Rehman Malik, demanding his removal.
This demonstration was held outside the National Press Club,Islamabad. The annoyed protestors raised slogans against Rehman Malik, thereafter appealed the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan to take action against Rehman Malik and remove him from his post without delay. They denounced the remarks made by the Interior Minister Rehman Malik comparing Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri with Pope in a press conference.
Furthermore the protestors, demanded immediate resignation from Dr. Paul Bhatti, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Minorities and Akram Masih, the Minister of State. The Chairperson of Christian Progressive Movement Naila J. Dayal addressed the protestors, saying that in the light of Article 296-C; the Interior Minister’s remarks have cast a bad report about Pakistan in the Christian world, which may isolate the country. She revealed her worries over the fact that the statements of the Interior Minister may have an effect on the Diplomatic relations of Pakistan with Christian countries. She said that the contentious remarks have hurt the sentiments of Christians in Pakistan and have spoiled the Inter-Faith Harmony in the country.
At this occasion, she insisted on the Muslim community to unite with the Christian community to express disapproval of the rash remarks by the Interior Minister. Moreover, she beseeched the other minority’s members of the National Assembly to pass a resolution against Rehman Malik; requiring a clarification from him. In addition, she made clear that Pope Benedict is a non-controversial person and is the leader of the largest sect of Christianity.
