Christians hold memorial service for late John Shaffaq General Secretary YMCA Lahore. This memorial service was held on Sunday October 30. A large number of Christians were present at this occasion along with the YMCA community. Church leaders from various churches in Lahore and other parts of the city also attended this service.

Pakistani Christians

Christians from all walks of life attended this memorial service. Leaders of Christian institutions were also present at this occasion. John Shaffaq was a prominent leader from the Christian community who was held in high esteem for his efforts to promote interfaith harmony. For this reason his memorial service was also attended by Hindu and Sikh leaders as well.

During the memorial service local clergymen including Reverend Shahid Miraj, Reverend Emmanuel Khokar, Reverend IB Rocky, Reverend Imtiazullah and Reverend Mushtaq Raza offered special prayers. While, those who addressed the attendees included, Moderator Church of Pakistan Bishop Samuel Azariah, President of Lahore YMCA Andrew McMullen, the present General Secretary Lahore YMCA Samuel Pervez, Dr Inayat Munawar, Director SAP Muhammad Tehsin, Youth Secretary National Council of Churches in Pakistan Sohail Akhtar, Colonel Farman, Dr Kanwal Feroze, Prof Abdia Elvin, Raja Abdul Rehman, Malik Qayyum and Magazine Editor The Nation Emanuel Sarfraz.

The Raiwind Diocese Choir presented special memorial songs during the memorial service. At the same time, a documentary highlighting John Shaffaq’s contributions in building YMCA and his life was also screened at this occasion.
