In the face of the threat posed by Islamic State, Christian militias such as the Free Patriotic Movement are arming themselves for the first time since the bloody Lebanese Civil War ended in 1990. Lebanese Forces commander Samir Geagea said: “ISIS is a cancerous tumour that surfaced at first in parts of Iraq and Syria and it’s still contained to a certain point and this can be removed only if we join our efforts via an international Arab alliance.”

Christians make up 35-40 percent of the population of Lebanon and majority of Christian refugees fleeing ISIS in Iraq and Syria prefer Lebanon.
