Christians urge DCO Jehlum to hook manufacturers of toxic liquor

A group of Christians met with the District Coordination Officer (DCO) Jehlum, following the incident of killing of 11 Christians after consumption of toxic liquor. The incident took place in Jehlum’s Christian Colony on October 28. The area is commonly known as “sharaab ghot” infamously known for production of liquor.

The delegation which consisted of Bishop Javaid Sindhu, Pastor Shahzad, Manzoor Bhatti, Pastor Aqeel Sabir, Elder Izhaq Gull and others met with DCO Jehlum Iqbal Hussain and Deputy Superintendent of Police Jehlum, Muhammad Sharif Khan and discussed the distressing issue of production of toxic liquor and the deaths caused by its consumption. “We request you to take action against the toxic liquor producing mafia throughout the district,” Christians demanded.

During the meeting, Pastor Shahzad Masih said that the perpetrators must be hooked and brought to justice so that trail of death caused by toxic liquor is curtailed. Manzoor Bhatti said that toxic liquor has already caused many deaths throughout the district, and there is an inevitable need for an efficacious action against this mafia.

Christians urged the government and district administration to take prompt action in order to thwart the mafia from operating. “Government must ban issuance of permits,” they demanded. At the same time they expressed deep condolences over deaths caused by toxic liquor, “we can feel the pain of the families of victims,” they said.
