Christmas Celebrated With Traditonal Fervency


ISLAMABAD: Christmas celebrated by Christians in the twin cities with traditional fervour.

Pakistani Christian community celebrated Christmas with traditional festivity, passion and religious dedication across the country on Wednesday.  Various Christmas programmers including cake cutting ceremonies, gatherings and musical events were held to celebrate the festive day.


Lok Virsa also organized for a congregation of Christian community a Christmas event as a keen expression of solidarity with them. The event included a cake-cutting ceremony held at the Heritage Museum where a Santa Claus distributed gifts and sweets among the children and intermingle with the guests, putting in essence to their merriment. The Christmas services were held at different Churches where members of the Christians community offered special prayers for the integrity, solidarity, peace and progress of the country.


The hustle bustle of the markets and shopping malls in the Rawalpindi and Islamabad, was observed while the Christian community completed all the preparation for celebrating this grand festival in a befitting manner. As days passed by till the Christmas Eve, they prepared to commemorate the festival with more gusto, sensing the echo of Church bells that announce the birth of Jesus Christ. The blissful occasion of Christmas filled up the atmosphere with colours, symbols and traditions of Christmas that mainly included Christmas Tree, Santa Clause, Christmas Carols and Christmas gifts. Children studying in various Christian educational institutions tableaux and carols thus adding up fascination to the Christmas functions.


Samuel Gill- a local government official said: This day has great significance for us. We usually decorate our homes and start the day with prayers in the Church for welfare of the whole humanity and progress of the country. We visit our relatives and exchange gifts, cakes and greeting cards with them on the occasion. Asad Amjad, a local shopkeeper said: Christmas is a big occasion like Valentine Day, which brings an opportunity to earn handsome amount through selling decorative ornaments for Christmas Tree, Teddy Bears, chocolates, greeting cards, Santa Claus etc.
