Christmas celebrations kick off in Azad Kashmir

Christian community in Azad Kashmir formally kicks off the Christmas celebrations. In this regard, local Christian leader declared that arrangements for the celebration events have almost been given final touches.

Mr. Younis Bhatti Head of Christian Welfare Trust and Women Wing AJK told APP that Christian community will be celebrating Christmas with traditional zeal and fervor. A considerable number of Christians are nestled in Azad Kashmir especially Mirpur District.

Further unfolding that in Mirpur, the advent of Christmas celebrations will be followed by another ceremony in Mangla. Christmas celebrations will commence after a local Churchman will inaugurate the celebrations by cutting a Christmas cake followed by a special prayer service. These ceremonies will continue till December 25th.

Mr. Bhatti said that there has never been any kind of communal commotion or disturbance during such festivities. Furthermore, he applauded the local inter-religious harmony in AJK, saying that a Christmas celebrations event will be held at the local District Council Hall on December 25. Christian community is committed to promote the teachings of Lord Jesus Christ, he said.

Christian Welfare Trust will be organizing a Christmas event in Mangla and other adjacent areas. People from other religions are also invited to attend these festive events, Mr. Bhatti revealed. He said that local Christians enjoy complete liberty to organize and celebrate their religious festivals.

There is a communal harmony between members of religious minorities and Muslims here in AJK. “Because of the liberal approach of the government and the people of Pakistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, the soil of motherland Pakistan and AJK are the paradise for the minority Christian community as well where there was complete sovereignty and freedom to them to perform their religious and other due obligations”, he declared.

Chairman of Christian Welfare Society Azad Jammu Kashmir, Mr. Salik M. Gill also told APP that local Christians have prepared carol singing events along with other related events. Special prayers will be offered for progress and development of Pakistan. He said that during this festive season Christians will offer special prayers for peace in their homeland.
