Christmas gives a message of peace and love declares Provincial Minister for Minorities Affairs and Human Rights Khalil Tahir Sindhu.

According to details, Khalil Tahir Sindhu while attending a Christmas dinner hosted by Punjab government said that Christmas gives the message of peace, love, harmony and hope. This Christmas dinner was hosted by Punjab government in honour of the ambassadors of European Union and senior diplomats. He also felicitated the guests at the dinner expressed his best wishes.

At this occasion, Khalil Tahir Sindhu informed the ambassadors and other senior diplomats about the novel steps taken by the Punjab government in order to facilitate and protect minorities’ human rights. He said that Punjab government has also set up committees at district level so that religious harmony is promoted along with allocating five percent quota for religious minorities in government jobs, merit based scholarships and financial assistance to religious minority students.

He explained to the participants of the dinner regarding government’s steps taken for legislation for marriage registration. He said that more steps were taken to curb violence against women, diminution for minority prisoners in sentences, checking misuse of loud-speakers and steps for curtailing child labour, and biased social attitudes.

He added that government is aware of its responsibilities and steps while at the same time, he said that government is taking steps in the light of UN convention for the protection of human rights.

On the other hand, Jean Francois who was representing Ambassadors of European Union said that Christmas gives the message of peace, brotherhood and hope. Moreover, he appreciated the steps taken by Punjab government for the welfare of religious minorities and protection of human rights in addition to holding of the function on Christmas.
