LAHORE: Christians in Pakistan urge the international community to wake up amid rising violence against Christians in Iraq.
Pakistani Church leaders held a special meeting to regarding the plight of Iraqi Christians strongly condemning violence and the massive exodus of Iraqi Christians because of IS militant group. They all urged the international community to make certain safety of all religious minorities in Iraq.
Rev. Shahid Meraj, of the Church of Pakistan (Anglican Community), dean of the Cathedral of Lahore, urged the government of Pakistan to officially condemn the killing of Iraqi Christians and other minorities, helping to ensure the end of cruelty. Rev. Meraj said, “The international community must wake up and protect the right of every human being to live according to their beliefs.”
Father Inayat Bernard, rector of St. Mary Seminary in Lahore, expressed gratitude towards Pope Francis, who has shown great concern towards Christians and all other religious minorities in Iraq.
