Following a reprehensible advertisement from Multan Health Department, there has been an outcry over public violation of Article 25(1). In a job advertisement, the Health Department of Multan had stated candidates from Non-Muslim Religious Minorities will be preferred for intake over posts of sweepers and sanitary workers. Sections from religious minorities had voiced distress over open shaming of religious minorities.
In this context Pakistan Minorities’ Teachers Alliance wrote a letter to the Chief Minister of Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, beseeching him to take note of the public violation of article 25(1) of the Constitution of Pakistan.
PMTA’ letter reads as follows:
Mr. Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif
Subject: Violation of the Constitution and recruitment police by the Executive District Officer (Health) Multan
Greetings and peace from Pakistan Minorities Teacher’ Alliance (PMTA).
PMTA would like to draw your kind attention to the subject cited above.
Article 25(1) of the Constitution of Pakistan guarantees, “All citizens are equal before law, and are entitled to equal protection of law.” The Executive District Officer (Health) Multan has openly violated the Constitution of Pakistan and the recruitment police as he has announced all sixty posts of sanitary workers /sweepers for non-Muslims in various hospitals, Rural Health Centers and Basic Health Centers of the Multan district in the advertisement, published in the “Daily Express” on July 6, 2016, though there is only five percent quota reserved for Non-Muslims.
Sir, PMTA requests you to order the concerned quarters to revise the said advertisement according to the recruitment policy to avoid discrimination at any level on the basis of religion. It is also requested you to kindly take stern action against the EDO (Health) Multan for his criminal and deliberate negligence for ignoring the recruitment policy.
With best regards
Professor Anjum James Paul
