LAHORE: City in turmoil as security forces get engaged in clashes with the PAT workers.
Security forces have arrested hundreds of activists of Tahirul Qadri’s Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) as the government prepares to cope with two key political protests in the next week. The detentions follow calls from both Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistani Awami Tehreek leaders this week for the government to resign. Arrests of activists began on Wednesday. Punjab Law Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmad told that 32 supporters of activist cleric Tahirul Qadri had been arrested.
Earlier, PAT workers manage to get rid of barricades around Tahirul Qadri’s residence in Model Town in addition to the barricades in front of the Jinnah Hospital and other adjoining roads coming from Minhajul Quran Secretariat in Model Town. At least three policemen were injured during a clash with PAT’s workers in Model Town on Friday morning.
