Court halts alcohol ban in Kerela, relieving Christians as a ban would also threatened the use of wine in a mass as per Christian faith. This ban proposal had earlier sparked debate on use of wine in Christian mass; likely to be threatened by imposition of this ban in the state.
The Supreme Court stayed the Kerala government’s plans to introduce almost complete prohibition of alcohol from Friday. The court stopped the move until the end of the month. “There is no coercive action till September 30,” Justice Anil R Dave told the court, announcing the stay.
Archbishop Francis Kallarackal said “Wine is used in mass as part of Christian faith. That practice will continue until the end of the world.”
