Christian woman, Nabila Bibi, betrothed to marry a Christian man was kidnapped from her house by a Muslim man Allah Rakha and forcibly married to a Muslim man in October 2015.
Bashir Masih, Nabila’s father tried to register an FIR with the local police, but as the news circulated, a group of Muslim men came to Masih’s house and threatened him to drop the case.
The accused did not resort to threats and held Masih and his family’s men at their house when the family demanded the accused for the right to meet their daughter. Nabila was not allowed to meet her family.
Masih and his family approached Christian Human Rights Activist, Sardar Mushtaq Gill filed a petition in the court of additional and sessions judge with the powers of ex-officio justice of peace Pattoki for registration a case FIR against the abductors on 27 October, 2015 which was accepted on 17 February, 2016 after a long inquiry and direction has been issued to SHO-Station house officer to register an FIR against the abductors.
Masih said that her daughter was threatened and was unable to return to her family as the abductors could accuse her of apostasy which leads to death punishment.
“It is truth that in such cases of conversion to Islam the victim’s family is threatened by criminals who get legal cover for their wrongdoings,” said Sardar Mushtaq Gill head of LEAD.
“Yesterday when I argued the case and raised the main issue of forced conversion to Islam the whole court room became alert and started to stare at me” told Gill.
