Death Toll Rises As A Bomber Targets A Historic Church In Peshawar

Commissioner Peshawar, Sahibzada Anis had thus far confirmed the deaths of 83 people in this devastating bomb blast. “The blast occurred when the people were coming out of the Church after Sunday service,” an eye witness said.

While SSP Operation Najeebullah told that, ”Initial reports suggested that it was a suicide blast.”


Policeman Mohammad Noor Khan told,” the bomber struck in the city’s Kohati Gate district.” “The attacker’s severed legs were found,” he confirmed.


A senior police official Nejeeb Bogvi, told that,” at least 7 children were among the dead, as were two policemen and 35 women.”


AIG Shafat Malik, stated that,” the suicide jackets contained around 12 kilogrammes of explosive material.” He further told the media that,” the suicide bombers’ body parts have been sent to a forensic lab for analyses.”



On the other hand a doctor at Lady Reading Hospital Sher Ali Khan, validated that at least 150 have been wounded by the blast. The injured have been transported to the hard by LadyReadingHospital and admitted in critical condition. The bodies of the deceased are being sent to All Saints church and collected there. Arrangements for their burial will be made tomorrow.

The bomber successfully targeted one of the oldest Church of Peshawar sited in a crammed locality which is at all times jam packed with the people mainly women as the area is the nucleus of markets and shopping centres.


Moreover, a considerable number of Christians live in the surrounding area and visited the Church for Sunday service in large number. According to reports at the time of blast there were at least 700 people inside the Church. The 1122 rescue teams hurried to spot to fulfil relief activities.


The police and other security forces cordoned off the area while a search operation was carried out immediately. Emergency has been declared in the Peshawar’s main hospitals.
