PESHAWAR: The sacking of Principal of Edwards College termed illegal by Diocese of Peshawar officers.

Labelling the act of sacking of the principal of Edwards College Dr Titus Pressler as illegal- the dignitaries of the Diocese of Peshawar, Church of Pakistan expressed annoyance. They urged the President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to abolish the board of governors of the Edwards College without delay.

 

While addressing the journalists and the gathering in a press conference, Fredrick Azeem Ghauri a member Diocese of Peshawar, Church of Pakistan and Member Provincial Assembly said: only the Bishop was authorised to appoint or terminate the services of the principal. Sidelined by Daniel Samuel and Assistant Director of the Peshawar Diocese Hayat Bhatti, he maintained: the institution belonged to the church and it played an important role in the growth and progress of the institution.

 

Azeem Ghauri went on to say: the institution earned an exceptional identity and maintained a high standard of education. He added: the college adopted impartiality in all forms of education irrespective of caste, creed and colour. He asserted: the Bishop had the power to appoint or sack principal of the college with the approval of the board of governors.

 

He clarified the role of government officials in appointment or sacking of principal of Edwards College saying: None of the government entity was authorised to interfere in the affairs of the college. He added: the Diocese reserved the right to challenge the illegal and unwarranted interference in the affairs of the college.
