Federal Minister for Human Rights Kamran Michael called at the house of the Christian minor victims of sexual assault, in Farooqabad, District Sheikhupura, Punjab. On July 8, Friday, Kamran Michael and his team met with the family of victim Shireen (her real name is withheld). He assured the dirt-poor family of all possible assistance from him.
On July 7, a 14-year-old Christian girl was sexually assaulted by Muslim men of the same area. Purportedly, Iqrar Hussain and his accomplices had gang raped the Christian minor who was left in critical condition after the assault. The girl is currently under treatment in a local hospital.
Senator Kamran Michael was accompanied by MPA Shakeel Marcus Khokhar and MNA Sardar Irafn Dogar, MPA Sajjad Haidar Gujjar and others met with the victim’ family. Federal Minister Kamran Michael assured the family of fiscal and legal assistance from the Ministry of Human Rights.
At this occasion, Kamran Michael directed the district administration to take strict action against the culprit and his accomplices. Iqrar Ahmad was apprehended after, Federal Minister directed the D.P.O to hook him.
In compliance with a Human Rights activist Shahzad Khalid’ report, when the main culprit Iqrar seized the girl in a market place, while her entire family was busy working at the fields. Iqrar brought the girl to his house. “At the time of the offence, his entire family was present at the house,” Shahzad detailed.
Initially the police showed reluctance in registering the FIR against the culprit, Iqrar Hussain Kamboh. It was only after pressure from some of Christian advocacy groups and Shahzad Khalid’ intervention that the FIR was registered but the rapist was still not arrested.
Shazad Khalid calls upon the Chief Minister of Punjab to take note of the incident and make sure that the Christian minor and her family get justice and the rapist is duly punished. Shazad Khalid maintains that the rapist is an employee of a local MNA, who has strong influence on the police, which make the transparency of police investigations dubious.
