The Jerusalem church in Karachi is a 300 strong family congregation. Since last month they have been receiving threats to give up the church property or face false blasphemy accusations.

Church members were approached in May and asked to leave the church and never return. Church Pastor Ilyas Masih has confirmed that this was not the last time they had been contacted.

Armed miscreants behind the threats are local criminals known for their violence and involvement in target killing and seizing public property.

“These Muslims have been pressuring the church people not to play musical instruments and asked the church leaders to stop girls from singing with boys in the church,” Pastor Ilyas explained. “Several times they stopped and threatened the worshipers and pastors for going into church for prayers and harassed the women in the past.”

Even after submitting a request to the local police station for extra protection the church members continue to face threats.
