Authorities have guaranteed foolproof security for the churches on the occasion of Good Friday and Easter. Good Friday will be observed on March 30th while on April 1 Christians will be observing Easter with traditional fervor.
For this reason, on March 24, a special meeting was held in Karachi, which was attended by officials from concerned departments along with representatives of the Christian community. This meeting was chaired by Commissioner Karachi Ijaz Ahmed Khan.
During the meeting, it was decided that the security provided to the churches will be made foolproof in order to avoid any kind of unfortunate incident. Others who attended this meeting included represntatives of Christian community, Additional Commissioner Karachi Asif Jamil, Director Local Government Farooq Siddiqui, District Councilors, Municipal Commissioners, Police officials, representatives of Cantonment Boards and Rangers officials.
It was decided that special arrangements of security will be made during the prayer services held on the occasion of Good Friday and Easter. Furthermore, it was decided that the civic organization will pay salaries to the Christian employees, before Easter. The official statement also said that the attendees also came to a conclusion that special measures will be made in order to maintain cleanliness and lights will be installed in the areas where Christian community’s religious festivals are to be held.
Last year, a major terror attack was foiled by the Pakistani security forces. A militant group wanted to target Christians on Easter Sunday, April 17. Details emerged that a terrorist couple Ali Tariq and his wife Naureen Laghari, planned for a suicide bombing at a local church.
The security forces raided the terrorists, hours before the Easter celebrations and stopped them from carrying out their heinous execution. Ali Tariq was killed while his wife Naureen Laghari was captured by the security forces. During the interrogations, she committed to her crime and disclosed her plans. She disclosed that terror group ISIS had provided them with two suicide jackets, four grenades and bullets.
On March 27, 2016 Easter Sunday, terrorist targeted Christian community. A suicide bomber hit Gulshan-e-Iqbal park in Lahore. Terror group claiming responsibility for the attack said that it had targeted Christians who were celebrating Easter.
