The government of Vietnam has released a Christian human rights activist who had spent three years in jail after being convicted of “propaganda against the state.”

Antonie Dau Van Duong, a Christian activist was over and over again beaten and abused during his confinement, while his Bible was confiscated as jailers sought to break his spirit. The 26-yer-old activist vowed to continue working for human rights.

Van Duoung said upon his release, “I’m lucky to be alive.”
