Christians in Gujranwala express anger over illegal seizure of the burial land allotted to the Christian community before the creation of Pakistan. In this regard a rally was held by the local Christian community calling for immediate action against the perpetrators.
Local Christians allege that locals by the name of Cheema Brothers have illegally seized the burial land of the graveyard which belongs to the Christian community. The protesters said that the graveyard covers 26 Kanals and 10 Marlas. During the protest Christian leaders also revealed that this burial land was allocated for Christian community before the partition of the sub-continent.
This rally was being led by Pastor Binyamin Mattu from the Presbyterian Church and Izhaq Masih from the Catholic Church. During the protestation, Pastor Binyamin said while addressing the assembly that “Seizure on Christians’ graveyard is a moment of alarm for the government.”
Additionally, Izhaq Masih said that the local police and civil administration must take notice of the illegal seizure. “This is highly unfair with the Christians,” he said. The protesters also called upon the Police Commissioner of Gujranwala to take action against those involved in seizing the land of Christian community’s graveyard. At the same time, agitated Christians said that if the authorities overlook their plea they will be left with no other option but to protest at a bigger level.
