India: Pastor beaten to death by hundreds of Maoist rebels in Andhra Pradesh

A pastor beaten in India by hundreds of Maoist rebels in Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. On July 29, Pastor Yohan Maraiah was killed over suspicion of being a police informer. The incident happened in the east Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh state.

Christian persecution in India

According to details, Maoist rebels left a note on Pastor Yohan Maraiah’s dead body. The note left on his dead body stated that he was killed because he was “a police informer” and “accumulating disproportionate wealth exploiting Tribals.” He was purportedly beaten and tortured by the rebels.

While remaking in this regard, Chairman of the Global Council of Indian Christians Sajan K George, that this incident is not the first time when a pastor has been subjected to heinous torture. “He suffered several attacks and had his church torched more than once. However, he remained strong in his unswerving faith in Jesus Christ,” George said.

According to USCIRF report,” In 2015, religious tolerance deteriorated and religious freedom violations increased in India. Minority communities, especially Christians, Muslims, and Sikhs, experienced numerous incidents of intimidation, harassment, and violence, largely at the hands of Hindu nationalist groups.”
