LAHORE: Punjab Lok Sujag organizes a seminar on the subject of “Role of Media in Inter-faith harmony.”
A Punjab based media organization; Punjab Lok Sujag arranged for a seminar: to highlight the role of media in interfaith harmony. The seminar was attended by representatives of different faiths in the society. The participants at the seminar emphasized on the necessity of making the media more independent and responsible to bring both developmental and non-developmental issues to life. The seminar was titled “Role of media in interfaith harmony.”
Kashif Baloch represented Punjab Lok Sujag at the seminar among the other participants were Romana Rashid a representative for Christian community, Allama Qararwi- provincial president of National Party, Mukhtar Bacha- former provincial minister, Mian Iftikhar Hussain- leader of Awami National Party, Malik Ghulam Mustafa- former president of Peshawar Press club, Shamim Shahid accompanied by large number of journalists and local media personnel.
Romana Rashid, while speaking to the participants acknowledged the role of media for giving due coverage to suicide attack on All Saint Church in Peshawar. In her speech she expressed hope that media will go on with concentrated efforts to draw attention to the brutalities of terrorists and anti-state elements.
The participants emphasized on the fact that: In a day and age where people in Pakistan have a choice from close to 100 public and private television channels, there are few there where one can turn to for greater interfaith harmony. They pledged to continue efforts aimed at promoting interfaith harmony and creating understanding and accommodation among different societies. Government and civil society have to play their role in promoting harmony and mutual respect among all faiths, cultures, they urged. All of the participants were of the view that media can play a very vital role in the promotion of interfaith and harmony, adding that media should work promoting soft image of the country.
