International Human Rights Day: Christian police official honored by President of Pakistan


Robin Yamin Sohotra – Senior Superintendent of Railway Police honored by the President of Pakistan today in a ceremony held at the presidency, Islamabad. He was chosen for the National Human Rights Award in recognition of his valuable contributions to uphold and propagate the Minorities’ Rights.

In a social media statement SSP Robin Yamin Sohotra stated: “By the grace of God I have been selected for the National Human Rights Award in recognition of my contribution in the field of Minorities Rights.”

The official letter from the Ministry of Human Rights, SSP Robin Yamin was informed about his nomination for the National Human Rights Awards on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day. For this reason an illustrious ceremony was held today December 10, at the President House, Islamabad.

The official letter from the Ministry of Human Rights stated: “As you are aware, the International Human Rights Day is observed worldwide every year on 10th December in recognition of Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), adopted by the United Nations in 1948. Ministry of Human Rights also celebrates the Say at national level in a befitting manner, in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders. This annual celebration is a regular feature.

The Government of Pakistan is cognizant of the importance of Human Rights and adopting various measures in order to achieve the essence of celebration of Human Rights Day. The present democratic Government stands committed to ensure equal rights of all citizens as enshrined in the Constitution of Pakistan and UDHR. Prioritizing the Human Rights Agenda, the Prime Minister of Pakistan has approved the Action Plan for Human Rights on 13th February, 2016 which is being implemented in the country to further improve the situation.

This year, on the occasion of International Human Rights Day on 10th December, this Ministry is conferring National Human Rights Awards to the Human Rights activists who have rendered meritorious services for realization of Human Rights including Rights of Women, Children, Minorities, OWDs and other vulnerable segments of the society. In this, regard, I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected for the above mentioned Award in recognition of your contribution in the field of Minorities Rights.

In view of the above, you are invited to participate in the Grand Function being held at Aiwan-e-Sadr on 10th December, 2016 in connection with Celebration of International Human Rights to receive your Award.”
