Iran: Christian suffers physical abuse during detention in an infamous prison

An Iranian Christian Ebrahim Firouzi, reportedly undergoes physical abuse in the infamous Rajai Shahr Prison. Ebrahim was tortured by the prison guards while they were forcing him to attend an appeal hearing. An advocacy group Middle East Concern reports that he was arrested on August 21, 2013.

He was detained because of his involvement in Christian activities. Him, who were later released after few months. Later on in October 2014, Ebrahim was relocated from a prison in Tehran to Rajai Shahr Prison near Karaj. His released was due on January 13, 2015 however he was denied release and was put on trial once again. Middle East Concern reports that Ebrahim was charged with “acting against national security, gathering and collusion.”

By the end of April 2015, The Christian litigant was handed down a five years imprisonment sentence. It is believed that he has been kept in a ward along with dangerous criminals and is vulnerable of attack from them. Recently, on July 13, Ebrahim was summoned for an appeal hearing, he adamantly refused to go. He maintained that his lawyer was enough to represent him in the court. The prison guards forcibly took him to the court, his appeal hearing was adjourned till November 2016.

The prison guards subjected him to severe physical torture. Ebrahim’s mother had appealed for his release in a video published under the auspices of a Human Rights group. In March 2016, Ebrahim released a prayer call saying: “Jesus is our example; the Savior who came among us to be crucified and save us. We sometimes have to sacrifice our freedom to live in God’s love, so I can’t think only about myself when there are so many believers suffering persecution.”
