After the church attack army helicopters (Bell 412) were monitoring the area. Quick Response of Frontier Corps and Police stopped the terrorists to enter the main Church hall said the Inspector General of Police. Highest security measures are implemented in Quetta. Four thousand security forces were deployed in the whole city for security purpose especially near churches, mosques and Imam bargahs.
Nine Christians were killed while 57 others were severely wounded when the suicide bombers struck the church of Quetta during Sunday mass. The people who died included four women. A 1 and ½ year old baby girl was among the wounded. She was admitted to the Trauma Center. All wounded people are admitted to the Civil Hospital and Trauma Center.
“The victims received wounds inflicted by splinters, broken windowpanes and wooden pieces of the main hall door,” said an official.
An eyewitness Naseem James said, “I was inside the hall along with my wife and two children when I heard the firing. One of my sister’s young daughters has died in blast and two other are injured.”
Witnesses reported that there was a heavy exchange of gun fire in the premises of church. The parked cars near the church were damaged while window glass broke of the nearby buildings due to the blast.
Balochistan IG Moazzam Jah Ansari told that around 400 people were worshiping inside the church building. Moreover, he said that the special security arrangements were made due to Christmas event which saved from more loss.
Balochistan Home Minister Sarfraz Bugti said ,”God forbid, if the terrorists had succeeded in their plans more than 400 precious lives would have been at stake”.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Quetta Abdul Razzaq Cheema confirmed the attackers were four in numbers while the two of the terrorists escaped from the site. One detonated himself and other was shot dead after heavy cross fire between the security forces and the terrorist. The bomb disposal squad defused the explosives-laden jacket of the terrorist who was killed by the police gunfire.
Civil Defence Director Aslam Tareen told that 15 kilogram of explosive material was used in both the jackets of suicide bombers. The terrorists were between the ages of 16 to 20 years.
Commander Southern Command, Lt-General Asim Saleem Bajwa and IF Frontier Corps Major General Nadeem Ahmed Anjum team visited the Trauma Center to meet the blast injured and inquired about their health. They assured for assistance for their treatment.
President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Balochistan Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri condemned the Church attack of Quetta.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sanaullah Zehri told that in this sad moment the whole nation of Pakistan is with the Christian community. The deployed security forces saved from more loss.
Chief Minister of Balochistan asked for detailed report of church attack to the Inspector General of Police. Moreover, according Amaq news agency, IS claimed the responsibility of the church attack of Quetta.
FIR of the blast in Quetta church is filed in the Civil Lines Police Station in the supervision of SHO, against the two unknown terrorists of IS group, since the police had no proper evidence.
