Terror group ISIS has claimed responsibility for an attack on a Christian family in Quetta. The attack killed four Christians, on April 2, Easter Monday. Inspector General of Police, Baluchistan, Moazzam Jan Ansari confirmed that all four died on the spot.
IG Moazzam Jan explained that the attack on the Christians, appeared to be a targeted attack. “It was an act of terrorism”, he stated. “Three members of a family, including a woman, were killed when the motor rickshaw they were (in)… came under attack,’ he said adding that “The rickshaw driver, who was also a Christian by faith, is among the dead.” A child was injured and was taken to hospital. Dead bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital. The incident unfolded at 6:45 p.m. when armed men opened fire at the rickshaw carrying the Christian family. The assailants fled on the motorcycle.
Followed by the heinous act, Islamic State by means of press statement released on Tuesday publicized that a “covert unit” of ISIS militants “managed to target a number of the combatant Christians.” It was also stated that the gunmen “shot them with a pistol, which resulted in the killing of four of them……”
Victims identified as Pervaiz, Firdous, Kamran and Tariq were gunned down outside a relative’s home in the Shah Zaman neighbourhood in Quetta. The family traveled to Quetta in order to celebrate Easter with relatives. Tariq Masih, a relative to the victims said: “They were guests of ours they came from Punjab to celebrate Easter. As they left the house to go to the bazaar after dinner, they were fired upon”.
