GAZA CITY: A three-day ceasefire agreement to hold between Israel and Hamas.
A new three-day ceasefire agreed between Israel and Palestinian faction Hamas in Gaza is holding on today. This agreement, began at midnight (21:00 GMT Sunday), is achieved after days of passionate mediation by Egypt. If the ceasefire continues to hold, Israel is to send representatives to Cairo today for talks on a long-standing deal.
Minutes before the ceasefire began, militants claimed to have fired several rockets at Israel, including one at Tel Aviv, but there were no reports of damage.
According to estimates about 2,000 people have died in the conflict thus far. The confrontation began on 8 July when Israel launched an operation intended to put off militant attacks from Gaza.
