Former federal Minister, Convener World Minorities’ Alliance and organizer of Awami Masiha Party Julius Salik has heaped condemnation upon the perpetrators of recent attacks on the media offices in Karachi. In a press release issued on August 25, Julius Salik condemned the incident stating that nobody should be allowed to impede media freedom in Pakistan.
He stated that media houses are the straits via which public’s perspective is channelized into the National and Provincial Assemblies. Media plays a pivotal role in highlighting the issues of common people, he stated. He continued that when it comes to the highlighting the cause of religious minorities or national harmony media has always been on the forefront. Considering this of media, attacking media offices is not justifiable, he asserted.
He further stated that targeting media personnel has become a routine matter, at the same time media houses are attacked frequently which is unacceptable and unwarranted. We will not be allow anybody to impede freedom of media in Pakistan, he avowed.
On Monday August 22, political activists from a celebrated political party MQM despoiled office of ARY NEWS, SAMAA TV and Neo TV, before getting engaged in a clash with police which left at least one dead and several injured. As the city reeled from unrest caused by riots, paramilitary Rangers chipped in to tackle the situation.
