Christians residing in Sector-6 of Karachi’s neighborhood Korangi, see red as policemen tried to raze their houses and a church. Soon after the incident, a local Christian resident shared a video, which showed the extent of grievance of these victims of police harassment.
Policemen tried to bulldoze their houses in the name of anti-encroachment drive, but when asked to provide the legal documentation they presented none. This incensed the Christians residents, who claim that policemen purportedly assaulted Christian women. Policemen pulled their dupatas (scarfs) and punched them on chest.
“Please let us live in our homes,” local Christian women pleaded in the video message. It was further revealed that after the residents asked for the legal orders for bulldozing their houses; policemen resorted to torture and started beating men and women indiscriminately. Christians claim that the policemen beat themselves and falsely accused the Christians of beating them. What is more, the policemen forcefully took Christians away.
The video has birthed indignation among Pakistani Christians who term this harassment as a controversial drive against poor citizens. Victims urged the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan as well as the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar to take notice of the illegal anti-encroachment drive and ensure protection and safety of citizens from police harassment.
