Karachi: Final respect paid as former MPA Michael Javaid laid to rest in a solemn burial ceremony

Former MPA Sindh Assembly Michael Javaid laid to rest in Karachi’s Gora qabaristan. Prominent Christian leader died of cardiac arrest on Wednesday, September 28. His burial ceremony was led by Archbishop of Karachi Joseph Coutts, at this occasion Vicar General Father Saleh Diego, Father Bernard Younas Bhatti OFM, Father Nazar Nawab, Father Tariq Rehmat, Bishop Sadiq Daniel from Balochistan Diocese of Church of Pakistan and many other church leaders.

His burial ceremony was attended by several members of Muslim, Hindu and Sikh community, social activists and others. Deceased MPA Michael Javaid was elected as member of Sindh Assembly four times between 1988 to 2002.During his political career; he was associated with mainstream political parties including the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Michael Javaid was an industrious opponent of minorities’ rights, as he continued to raise his voice over issues of minorities. He was founder and chairperson of Pakistan Minorities Forum, he was also President of Late Shahbaz Bhatti’s party All-Pakistan Minorities Alliance Sindh and Balochistan chapters.

Father Saleh Diego paid homage to his political and social services towards the Christian community and religious minorities. Chief Minister Sindh’s advisor on inter-religious harmony Anthony Naveed also paid tribute to the deceased leader. He said that his struggles for the minorities and their rights will be remembered always.
