Karachi: Muslim and Hindu clerics visit churches to show solidarity with Christians


In show of solidarity with the Christian community, clerics from various faiths visited cathedrals in Karachi on December 24, Saturday. In this regard, a delegation of clerics from Muslim, Hindu and other faiths arrived at two churches of the city as part of their campaign to promote interfaith harmony and peace in the country.

This delegation of clerics from various faiths included Allama Muhammad Ahsan Siddiqui, Allama Jafar Subhani, Father Mario, Pandit Sham Lal Sharma, Allama Muhammad Rehan Mustafa, Pervez Gil, Advocate Saleem Michael and Dr. Goband. Allama Muhammad Ahsan Siddiqui was leading the delegation.

These peace and interfaith harmony promotion visits were organized by Interfaith Commission for Peace and Harmony (ICPH). During their visits to the churches, this group of clerics from other faiths participated in Christmas cake cutting ceremonies and special prayer services held in this connection.

One the churches, this delegation visited was St Patrick’s Cathedral. The Archbishop of Karachi honorable Joseph Coutts welcomed his counterparts from other faiths. While addressing those present at this occasion Archbishop Joseph Coutts said that the message of Christmas is to share love and practice tolerance while upholding brotherhood. Christmas is for all humankind – message of Christmas is for all the mankind. This delegation also paid a visit to the Holy Trinity Cathedral.

While remaking about this endeavor Allama Muhammad Ahsan Siddiqui laid emphasis on the point that all religions prohibit killing people, terrorism, extremism and other such scourges that predominantly mar peace and harmony in the world. He added that all religions promote love for all human beings irrespective of their religion, creed, ethnicity and back grounds.

Moreover, he praised Interfaith Commission for Peace and Harmony for striving to gather religious scholars and leaders from various other faiths at one platform. He said that these efforts will certainly be pivotal in promoting interfaith harmony.
