Women resort to arming themselves against the knife man who is still at large. A mysterious knife man has been stabbing and wounding women, police remains clueless. As a result of police’s failure, few courageous women have decided to be on their guard against the attacker.

Media reports that some women have decided to carry knives with them, so that in case the knife man attacked them, they would be able to attack him in return. In this regard, a woman in Gulshan-e-Jauhar said: “I am not afraid of the knife man and will kill him if he tries to stab me.”

“Please don’t be scared,” she advised the women of Karachi. “If you show fear, the attacker will become more confident. I have this knife because women are not lesser mortals and they can challenge their attackers.”

Another woman from the same neighborhood said that her husband handed her a knife and encouraged her to strike the attacker if in case she encountered him. “I am not afraid of a cowardly man who attacks women just to get publicity,” she said.

Another school going girl said that she now carries a knife in her school bag. “My mother asked me to keep it with me as a precautionary measure,” she told the media, adding “I don’t know exactly what I have to do it though. Whether I am able to retaliate or not is irrelevant. I can at least show it to the attacker to scare him.”

On the other and, Police claims that there have been 13 incidents of knifeman stabbing women, and only 10 cases of these incidents have been registered. District East SSP Samiullah Soomro told the media: “There is a heavy deployment of uniformed and plainclothes officers in the entire neighborhood.

“Our effective actions forced him the attacker to stop his criminal activities,” he claimed. The Police official also informed that the police have stepped up efforts by deploying police personnel in plainclothes, as well as informers are assigned with the task to trace the attacker.

Police claims that knife attacker used a motorbike bike and was apparently a thin man aged 20 to 29 years. Police claims that suspect’s height ranged from 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inch. Police have thus far not found out about the motive of the attacker, who is still at large.

Most recent attacks have been carried out in areas including, Dalmia, Gulshan-e-Jamal, Rashid Minhas Road and NIPA Chowrangi near Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology. Reports detailed that the attacker had restricted his action to Gulistan-e-Jauhar area of the city.
