A 56-year-old doctor Dr Pritam Lakhwani from the Hindu community was gunned down by unknown assailants. Dr. Lakhwani was targeted just outside his clinic by unknown men. The incident took place in Pak Colony neighborhood, at around 11 pm on Thursday August 4. He was shot in his chest. The assailants fled while injured Dr. Lakhwani was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment, but was later shifted to Agha Khan University Hospital, by his family. He succumbed to his injuries on Friday, August 5.
The police are unclear about the motive of the assailants. The deceased was a general physician and ran a private clinic near Bara Board in Pak Colony. He was running his clinic since last 15 years. While remarking about Dr. Lakhwani’s tragic death, his son Rakesh Kumar said, “He was returning home after shutting down his clinic as per routine when he came under attack.”
“Someone called me from my father’s cellphone and informed me that he had been killed,” shared Rakesh. He further said that his father Dr. Lakhwani bore no personal hatred nor, did he had any knowledge of his father receiving death threats.
Victim Dr. Lakhwani is a resident of Garden East. Witnesses disclose the incident occurred when there was a power cut in the area. “No one saw the culprit or culprits. We [the police] don’t even know whether there was more than one culprit,” said police officer Muhammad Hasnain.
SHO of Pak Colony Musarrat Malik was suspended over the incident. An FIR No 144/16 was registered against unidentified persons. Investigations into the case are under way.
