A Christian peasant and family brutally tortured by a landlord in a village in District Kasur, Punjab. Stone broke, Christian peasant Manzoor Masih, and his family were severely injured as a result of bashing, on June 16, Thursday. The incident took place in Bugri, a village in District Kasur, when unknown men stormed into Manzoor Masih’ house and started torturing and humiliating the Christian residents.
After storming into the house of Manzoor Masih, the armed assailants started misbehaving with women and beat them also. The assault was backed by Manzoor Masih’ Muslim landlord, who has a significant influence in the area. Followed by the attack, Manzoor tried to get an FIR registered against the assailants, but the disinclination of police left him in hay and wire.
However, Member of Punjab Assembly Mary Gill took note of the incident and reached out to the marginalized victims. She contacted the DPO Kasur, Ali Rizvi and asked him to take action against the perpetrators and provide the victimized family enough security.
DPO Kasur, issued directives to DSP to visit Bugri village himself and investigate into the incident. DSP was also directed to register an FIR of the incident and hook the perpetrators.
“When I came to know, I contacted DPO Kasur Ali Rizvi who immediately took action by ordering DSP Saddar to visit the village, register FIR and arrest the suspects,” MPA Mary Gill explained. “During my meeting with DPO Kasur along with Faryad Bhatti, Shahzad Nafat, Akram Ishaq and other community leaders, he assured that the security is deployed to avoid any outward situation. Later on, I also visited the village and met the family.”
Afterwards, the Christian lawmaker visited the DPO herself, and inquired about the progress in the case in person. MPA Mary Gill was accompanied by Rights Activist Shahzad Nafat and Faryad Bhatti, Akram Izhaq. DPO Kasur, guaranteed the Christian MPA that police contingents has been deployed at the village in order to ward off violent clashes between the Christian and Muslim villagers. Later on, MPA Mary Gill and others visited the victimized Christian family and assured them of all possible help and facilitation from her side.
