Vandals torch house of a Christian, over property dispute. Pakistani Christian activist Khalid Shahzad reported the incident revealing that the motive behind arson was land grabbing. In his social media report, he revealed that unknown men had torched house of Christian, followed by harassment.

Violence against Christians in Pakistan

In keeping with the report, 68-years-old Rehmat Masih’s house was set on fire by unknown men. The incident took place in Bahadur Pura, Kasur. On January 23, Monday, 7 am, Rehmat Masih, his daughter Sajida and granddaughter were sleeping at their home, when they woke up to know that their house has been set on fire. Shahzad Khalid revealed that Rehmat’s 4-years-old grandchild started shouting when she saw smoke rising up from the courtyard.

Khalid Shahzad further revealed that on October 16, 2016; unknown men had sexually assaulted his daughter Sajida. The incident was reported to the local police station but the case was not registered. He reported that the police showed reluctance to take action against the perpetrators.

Followed by the incident, activist Shahzad Khalid approached the victimized family and started investigating into the incident. After scrutinizing, he reported that on November 16, 2016; a man identified as M. Bashrat son of M. Din forced Rehmat Masih to sale the land to them. Rehmat Masih was not willing to comply with the demands of Basharat. Consequently, Basharat started harassing and hurling threats at Rehmat Masih.

Khalid Shahzad further reports that father of Basharat claimed that they had already bought the land from Rehmat Masih’s nephew. The land under dispute covers 8 marlas, the report reveals. Followed by investigations, Khalid Shahzad approached local police authorities and was able to get the First Information Report (FIR) registered.

“Yesterday Saddar police being much cooperative, registered an FIR of the case states Khalid Shahzad. In this case, District Police Officer of Kasur had assisted the Christian activist, Khalid Shahzad. Details emerged that the alleged perpetrator Basharat had already fled and was hiding; however the police has arrested his brother. Moreover, Police has also recorded the statement of Sajida- victim of sexual assault. Khalid Shahzad expressed hope that the situation will be under control and that justice will be served in this case.
